Propane Delivery 101: Tank Sizes, Refill Schedules & More

Propane is a safe, versatile, and reliable fuel source. It’s no wonder that so many Massachusetts homeowners are making the switch. Having new equipment installed or switching to a new propane provider can feel daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Keep reading this blog to learn some of the propane delivery basics, including propane tank sizes, delivery options, and what to expect during your first delivery.

Propane Delivery Basics

1) Become a Customer

No matter if you’re looking for a new provider for your existing propane needs or want to add propane to your property, the first step is becoming a customer with us.

Propane Tank Installation

If you’re entirely new to propane and are making the switch, you’ll first need to have a tank installed on your property. If you’re wondering, “How much propane do I need?” The experts at Bursaw can help!

Our trained professionals will ask you all the right questions to determine which of our propane tank sizes makes the most sense for your needs, including propane tank dimensions, the propane tank’s efficiency, and more.

We are here to answer any questions you may have, so you feel confident in your decision to use propane to power the systems in your home.

Choose Your Preferred Delivery Option

When you set up service with us, our team will ask you a few essential questions about your delivery preferences to help determine which delivery option makes the most sense for you.

Will-Call Delivery: Will-call propane customers remain in complete control of their fuel levels and will need to call to schedule their fills. We suggest requesting a fill when your propane tank is 25-30% full to avoid a potential emergency runout.

Automatic Delivery: Bursaw Gas & Oil offers automatic delivery, which means you don’t have to worry about calling in your fuel order at all. We use your usage history and degree-day technology to accurately predict when you need a propane fill and schedule a delivery on your behalf. Automatic customers with heat pumps and woodstoves should keep an extra eye on their gauge, as this does affect the degree day calculation and can affect the frequency of deliveries.

2) Prepare Your Home for Delivery

Preparing your home for delivery ensures our drivers can complete the order safely and efficiently.

  • Keep the path to your propane tank clear of debris, like snow and ice.
  • Trim back bushes, branches, or other obstacles in your driveway and around your tank.
  • Ensure your house number is visible from the street.
  • If you have a gate, unlock it to provide your driver with access to your tank.
  • Make sure pets are secured inside during the delivery.

3) Your Delivery Is Completed

On delivery day, your propane driver will arrive in a large fuel truck. They’ll park safely on or near your property, connect a hose to your tank, and begin the fill. The propane tank refill process typically takes 15-30 minutes, depending on the size of your tank and the amount of propane being delivered.

After the fill is complete, the receipt for the delivery will be left at your front door or in your mailbox.

4) Pay Your Bill

Every propane provider is a little different, but Bursaw Gas & Oil accepts cash or check brought or sent to our office, or you can also call and pay over the phone with a credit card.
